I have just nearly finished the word count I set myself to do on Monday, only short of a hundred words to be added on for today's quota. I will get there. So as a little treat and some fun, I opened up the 2006 Perth Street Directory that a mate, E & G, had left me FOC, before they flew off to Melbourne this year. Or was it last year? My brain fails me at this point in time, and of the night/morning. They wanted me to have it, so I would not get lost in big ole Perth, once I had passed my driving test and gotten my 'P' plates.
I've just discovered an alternative way to get to D's house, and back to my place. Will have to double check with him, since he is, after all, helping me gain experience when driving. Being proactive about roads, that's what I'm doing! As a new driver, it is getting fun exploring the new roads that I can go through and find out more about. Thing is, it would irritate me, if I missed turns or turned into a wrong road, and would have to stop and look at the map again. I suppose either wouldn't be too bad, as stopping to check again, would help me acquire the skills in order to find out my position in my eventual internal GPS system and also allow me to find alternate routes. That, I think, would definitely be a useful skill, but one that would have to be honed over time.
So which is why for now, I've resorted to planning my routes for the places I think I'd go to most often, on Post-it notes. Major places would be: D's house, Northbridge (for the occasional supper with bf and friends who have been so patient with me, my driving shout :-P, need to explore the place for parking opportunities) and Subiaco. I reckon I'll find more destinations in the future and I'll slowly come to remember how to go to the above first three destinations by memory, and newer ones will take up more Post-it notes.
I've still to get the hang of finding the freeways and figuring out which is which, for what way, but I do know when I'm going to D's house, it's freeway north, and for back home, it's freeway south. Just need to remember when to turn, dammit! :-( But the thing to mention is, I managed to read the map without needing to turn it! Okay, initially I did have to, but I got the hang of it after a while! Let's see how I go when I read it in the car!
Oh yes, a mention, tried parking at the Roe Street Car Park Monday morning and I've to say, they're cheap on space!!! Such a tight car park and I mean that in a bad way! Definitely need more practice to get my positioning accurate with D's car. Not an easy task, but I'll get there. Ganbatte! ^_^
OK, it's nearly four and I'm still typing, I need to get to sleep. May God bless me with the future days to come and give me the strength and resolution to achieve my goals. Amen.
