PCs Versus Macs

If anyone hasn't noticed when in a conversation with me, I think I do mention that D. has been trying really hard to convert me into a mac-kie, a person who would sell their soul into the world of Apple. I've been a Windows OS, PC using person since the age of eleven or so. Way back to when Windows 3.1 was used. (I was over DOS by then.) I can see how Macs are probably good, as trumpeted by D. But somehow a PC has more versatility with regards to the types of programs it can run as perhaps compared to Macs. VLC player, a media player that has served me well, with all sorts of video files i have, without needing to install codecs, is something i don't think Macs would take kindly to. What about playing game via image disks? Being a student, it's tough buying other additional programs that suits a particular hardware + software. Macs and the hard + software bundles that come with it are expensive. Everything has to be legal, not that there's anything wrong with it, and paid for. As a student, I've enough bills coming in as is. And what is it with .ds files? It’s just wasting space on the hard drive.

My current laptop has great specs and is really light in weight, though it's time for a reformat soon, due to so much crap being in it. I don't mind doing reformats at all. The only thing that makes me sigh is that the CD/DVD drive is external, meaning I can't watch DVDs unless I lug it with me and that it has no built-in camera. The Mac book is heavy-ass, and there ain't no mini legs to support it properly or prevent scratching at the bottom of the laptop. With only two USB ports, it's not enough.

I also can't justify the need for another laptop, even if it was a Mac laptop. Hard to explain to folks, when I'm supposed to be broke! Maybe I'll reconsider, since I might be getting a new laptop when I'm working, if there's a need to get one. Have to see the workplace, what kind of system are they using. For now, I'm still not convinced that Macs are for me.
